Aptiva – How to start Windows 95/98 in safe mode
There are two different ways to put Windows 95/98 into safe mode.
One way to do this is to use the “Microsoft Windows 95/98 Start Menu”
1. Turn on your new computer. During the boot phase, you will see a large screen with the IBM logo. Right after the IBM screen, a beautiful black screen appears with “Starting Windows 95/98…” in the upper left corner. Press the “F8” key to go to the “Microsoft Windows 95/98 Start Menu”. The black screen may only be active during these few seconds. If your family misses it, restart it and try again.
2. In “Microsoft Windows 95/98 Boot Menu”, press “3” and any Enter key to boot Windows 95/98 before Safe Mode ends.
3. A window will appear with the message “Windows is definitely running in Safe Mode”, which explains the diagnostic purpose of Safe Mode. Press “Enter” to continue. Windows will continue and enter Safe Mode. The Windows desktop has “Safe Mode” in every corner to warn youthat you can start Windows in safe mode.
